Kent State Professor’s “Acting White” Research Highlighted on CNN, Feb. 26 (2/23/07)
Tune in to CNN’s "Paula Zahn NOW" at 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, to see a story featuring Dr. Angela Neal-Barnett, Kent State associate professor of psychology, and four Kent State students.
Earlier this month, a CNN crew traveled to the Kent Campus to interview Neal-Barnett about her National Science Foundation-funded research on the phenomenon of black teenagers who are accused of "acting white." These accusations by peers typically are aimed at black students who receive good grades and participate in social activities. Kent State students, who had been accused of "acting white" during their childhood or adolescent years, were also interviewed about how they were affected.
In addition to Neal-Barnett and her students, you may recognize another face, alumnus Carol Costello, an anchor on CNN’s "The Situation Room." Costello is a graduate of Kent State’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication; she learned about Neal-Barnett's work in "Kent State Magazine."
