Graduate programs in music lead to the degrees Master of Music, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy, all of which are accredited by The National Association of Schools of Music.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
For students residing at an inconvenient distance from Kent, an audition tape may be sent to the Coordinator of Graduate Studies in the School of Music. It should contain up to thirty minutes of material covering a variety of performance styles (and language for vocalists). A list of repertoire studied in the past year should accompany the tape or be brought to the audition. Students desiring a return of the audition tape should enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
While it is not required for admission, students applying to the Master of Arts and doctoral programs, who are planning to study applied music, must audition.
»APPLY ONLINE FOR A GRADUATE AUDITION
All entering master's and doctoral students (except for the online Music Education program) take an entrance examination in music theory. The examination must be taken before the start of enrollment in a graduate degree program. Graduate theory coursework required as a result of this examination will be counted toward the degree requirements. Students may retake the examination once.
