Jazz Invitational

The 2017 High School Jazz Invitational 

Friday, March 3 in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music. A day of interactive rehearsals, clinics and performance.

9:45a -10:30a: Tallmadge (9:45a) and Bedford Hts. (10:05a) High Schools arrive at Kent State University’s Center for the Performing Arts building (1325 Theatre Drive, Kent, Ohio 44242. Enter through the back entrance loading dock. That entrance is off of Rt. 59 and Horning.). Students will first be directed to a registration table, then can warm up and prepare for first rehearsal in Room E112. Cases and coats can be left in E112.

10:30a – 12:00p: Rehearsal in Room E112 (Tallmadge, Bedford Hts., and KSU Jazz Orchestra). This will be a combined, interactive rehearsal during which everyone reads/plays through each ensemble’s music.

12:00p – 1:30p: Lunch. Pizza, chips, and drinks will be supplied. There will also be a chance for students to explore the building and immediate campus chaperoned by KSU Jazz students.

2:00p – 3:30p: Clinics by KSU Faculty:

  • Improvisation clinic by Bobby Selvaggio in Room D105.
  • Jazz History clinic by Chris Coles in Room D104.
  • Rhythm Section clinic by Theron Brown, Aidan Plank, and Dustin May in Room C307.

4:00p – 6:00p: Ensemble rehearsal. Each group will play individually and have KSU Faculty work with them.

6:00p – 7:30p: Dinner (on your own). Rockne’s Restaurant and the Student Center Food Court are within walking distance of the Center for the Performing Arts building.

8:00p: Concert by Tallmadge, Bedford Hts., and KSU Jazz Orchestra in Ludwig Recital Hall. Concert is free and open to the public.
