Majors & Minors

The Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University offers programs leading to two undergraduate degrees for students who seek a high level of professional competence in piano performance, instrumental performance, voice performance, composition or in music technology. The Bachelor of Arts degree in music is also available to undergraduate students. Graduate programs in music lead to the Master of Arts, Master of Music or Doctor of Philosophy. All these programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

Undergraduate music students pursue programs leading to the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree. An audition is required. Master of Arts degree majors are available in music composition, ethnomusicology and music theory. Master of Music majors are available in performance, performance (chamber music) and conducting. In addition, a complete online Master of Music degree in music education is offered. A Doctor of Philosophy degree is available in music theory-composition and in music education.

A Bachelor of Science in Music Technology is offered at Kent State University at Stark. Audio Recording majors learn advanced audio recording techniques. Music Production majors learn how to use technology to realize creative work such as: original music, arranging and production.

The music minor provides a basic understanding of the music literature, theory and performance. Other minors include, jazz studies, world music, audio recording and music technology. These last two are offered at the Kent State University Stark Campus.
