Kent State University held a dedication ceremony for the Kent State University Sculpture Walk. The sculpture walk currently consists of four works of art along the University Esplanade, the pedestrian walkway through campus, with plans to add more pieces on campus and extending into the city of Kent.
Kent State University Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen has announced the hiring of Rob Senderoff as men’s basketball head coach. Senderoff takes over as the 24th head coach in the 95-year history of Kent State basketball after spending seven previous years on the Kent State Golden Flashes coaching staff.
Kent State University bestowed the honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters to Leonardo Ferragamo, chief executive officer of Palazzo Feroni Finanziaria S.p.A., a holding company of the shoe and luxury goods dynasty Salvatore Ferragamo of Florence, Italy. The special ceremony took place on April 7 in the Kent Student Center Kiva. During the same ceremony, Ferragamo also was inducted into the university’s Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising Hall of Fame for his internationally recognized expertise in the global merchandising of the Salvatore Ferragamo brand of women’s footwear, handbags, scarves as well as the men’s shoes and clothing line.
The School of Theatre and Dance at Kent State University dedicated its new black box theatre to Louis O. Erdmann and William H. Zucchero — two celebrated emeriti faculty. The two had a direct impact on the growth and expansion of the School of Theatre and Dance over a nearly 30-year period, from the early ’60s through the mid ’80s.
Kent State University Vice President for Finance and Administration Gregg Floyd joined Congressman Tim Ryan and officials from PARTA (Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority), the city of Kent and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Kent Central Gateway Multimodal Facility. Despite the rain, a ceremony was held April 4 at the construction site on Depeyster Street in downtown Kent, Ohio.
