February 4, 2011   Good luck to former Kent State Golden Flash James Harrison, who plays this Sunday in the Super Bowl. Harrison was a member of Kent State’s football team from 1999 to 2001. February 1, 2011   Kent State University reports that its spring 2011 enrollment is up 4.56 percent with the release of the university’s official 15th day census data for the eight-campus system. The spring enrollment figure sets a new record high for spring recorded enrollment for the university. January 24, 2011   The Arbor Day Foundation has honored Kent State University as a 2010 Tree Campus USA university for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship. This is the third consecutive year Kent State has been named a Tree Campus USA university. January 24, 2011   Former congressman and NAACP President Kweisi Mfume was the special guest speaker at Kent State University’s Ninth Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 27. Mfume is also a nationally respected diversity advocate and TV and radio commentator. Students, faculty, staff and community members were invited to attend the event. January 6, 2011   Kent State University’s Fashion School was recently ranked third in the country and 13th in the world by the popular online fashion magazine Fashionista.com. January 5, 2011   Sabina Uzakova, a recent Kent State University alumna, is asking members of the Kent community to help the thousands of displaced men, women and children in Kyrgyzstan. January 4, 2011   Chris Rizzo will never forget the images of suffering he saw when he went on a mission trip to Haiti in February, about a month after the earthquake in Port-au-Prince. He saw babies sitting in baskets, muddied and naked. He saw a reddish tinge to their hair, indicating malnourishment. He saw the outline of their ribs jutting through their skin. And when he looked into their eyes, he did not see a sparkle or gleam of energy -- he saw nothing.
