May 2, 2013 Kent State University held its 43rd annual commemoration of May 4, 1970, with events taking place May 2-5, 2013. The annual commemoration provides an avenue for the university community to come together to remember those lost and injured during the tragedy and also to reflect on the meaning of May 4 for today. May 2, 2013 On May 3, 2013, the groundbreaking for Kent State University’s Field House Locker Room project took place at the Kent State Field House, which is located at 2227 Summit St. in Kent, Ohio. The Field House Locker Room project is the first phase of the Building Champions Fundraising Initiative. It is also a part of the university’s “Foundations of Excellence: Building the Future†initiative. May 2, 2013 Kent State University Libraries will host its Stress-Free Zone event in the library’s lobby on Monday and Tuesday, May 6-7, from 3-5 p.m. The Stress-Free Zone offers members of the university community the opportunity to unwind and ease the stress of finals week. April 29, 2013 PBS news anchor Gwen Ifill will join Kent State University to mark its 43rd annual commemoration of May 4, 1970, with the dedication of the May 4 Visitors Center. The center, which tells the May 4 story set against the political and cultural changes of the 1960s, will be dedicated Saturday, May 4, with other traditional commemorative events beginning Friday, May 3. April 22, 2013 Kent State University’s Special Education program seeks applicants for its Early Intervention in Natural Environments Specialization Training through Distance Learning program to prepare individuals at the graduate level to work with infants and toddlers who have identified disabilities or delays and their families. April 22, 2013 Kent State University and the City of Kent have been selected as the winners of the Larry Abernathy Award from the International Town-Gown Association (ITGA). The award honors the town-gown relationship that best represents the spirit of ITGA. April 17, 2013 Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton announced today he will retire from the presidency of Ohio’s second largest public university, effective July 1, 2014. He has served as Kent State’s chief executive officer since July 1, 2006. April 15, 2013 Former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins visits Kent State University on Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kent Student Center Ballroom as part of the Wick Poetry Center’s annual U.S. Poet Laureate Reading in celebration of National Poetry Month.
