Kent State Travels to Duquesne for
WNIT on Thursday

The Kent State women’s basketball team (20-9) will take on Duquesne (22-8) Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).

Womens Basketball WNITThe winner of Kent State/Duquesne will face the winner of Kansas/Wichita State in the second round with a date and location to be determined.
 
The 2011 season marks the second consecutive the Golden Flashes will appear in the WNIT and third time overall. It is the first time in program history Kent State will be in postseason play in consecutive seasons. It also marks the eighth time Kent State has advanced to postseason play (NCAA 1982, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002; WNIT 2004, 2010, 2011).
 
Kent State is coming off a second-place finish in the Mid-American Conference East Division with an 11-5 mark. The Golden Flashes earned a No. 4 seed in the 2011 MAC Championship and dropped a heart-breaking 69-65 quarterfinal contest to No. 5 seed Eastern Michigan.
 
The Golden Flashes are led by seniors Jamilah Humes (Saginaw, Mich.) and Taisja Jones (Dallas, Texas), who were both named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2011. Humes leads the team and is ranked in the top 70 in the NCAA in assists (68th, 4.6 apg) and steals (35th, 2.7 spg) while adding 14.8 points per game. Jones leads the Flashes with 16.7 points per game (64th in the NCAA) and 6.1 rebounds per contest.
 
Duquesne went 22-8 during the regular season, including wins in 15 of their first 17 games. After a 9-5 mark in the Atlantic-10 Conference, the Dukes dropped a 74-66 decision to Dayton in the A-10 quarterfinals.

Kent State is 2-1 all-time against Duquesne, but has not played the Dukes since the 2001-02 season. The Golden Flashes are 0-1 against Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Joining Kent State in the WNIT field representing the Mid-American Conference are Central Michigan (at Illinois State 3/17), Toledo (vs. Delaware 3/16) and Eastern Michigan (vs. Michigan 3/17).
