"In our planning for the presidential search, trustees recognized the unique perspective and value that Professor Lovejoy would bring to our process," said Richard Marsh, Kent State trustee and chair of the Presidential Search Committee.  "Though he was unable to accept our invitation in July due to prior commitments, we are pleased that he can join now as our search has moved into high gear in recruitment."

Kent State University Professor of Anthropology C. The 32nd Annual Black Squirrel Festival took place Friday, Sept. 6, from 2-8 p.m. at the Kent Campus on the Student Green and Risman Plaza. The Black Squirrel Festival is one of Kent State University’s most beloved and popular traditions that attracts more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Kent community. As usual, live, free entertainment, festival food, local vendors and Black Squirrel spirit were all a part of this year’s event. The movie “Monsters University” also was shown that evening on the Student Green.

Kent State University and Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute will co-fund two pilot research projects as part of an initiative to enhance collaborations between the two institutions. Following a competitive review process, two teams comprising researchers from each institution will receive $100,000 each for collaborative research that will lead to co-submission of grant proposals to federal and nonfederal agencies.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month Students from Kent State University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication and School of Digital Sciences won the Associated Press Media Editors’ (APME) Innovator of the Year for College Students award for a class project that examines issues surrounding college suicide.

The fall 2013 Bowman Breakfast will take place at Kent State University in the Kent Student Center Ballroom on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Doors open at 7 a.m., breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program will follow at 8 a.m. The featured speaker is Marcello Fantoni, Ph.D., associate provost for global education at Kent State. Fantoni will speak on the topic “The International City of Kent.”

Scholar of the Month Ann Jacobson Professor College of Nursing 1995-present Ann Jacobson is a professor in the College of Nursing and a nationally recognized nursing scholar. Her program of research represents an integration of theories from a variety of disciplines and focuses on testing cognitive-behavioral and complementary therapies for people experiencing procedural pain and for those undergoing knee arthroplasty.
