A $952,000 National Science Foundation grant to researchers at Kent State University will result in a mobile device application to help visitors to Cuyahoga Valley National Park learn more about the park’s history and ecology and become “citizen scientists” by sharing their findings with others.

Kent State University is embarking on a campaign to motivate and assist students toward timely graduation. The university’s “Formula to Finish” initiative encourages students to register for and pass at least 15 credit hours per semester in order to graduate in two years to get their associate degree or four years for a bachelor’s degree, and save time and money in the process. Kent State’s Undergraduate Studies oversees the “Formula to Finish” initiative for all students at Kent State’s eight campuses.

Data breaches that compromise accounts and invade privacy occur almost daily. Universities are in a unique position to educate their students, faculty and staff about the importance of securing their own data and online identities. On Sept. 15-18, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University will host Big Data and Privacy (BDP) Week to raise campus awareness of and engagement with concepts of big data, privacy and what those concepts mean individually and globally. This is the first commemorative week of its kind at Kent State.

Kent State University President Beverly Warren recently joined U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan in a meeting with regional leaders about the state of Ohio’s infrastructure and the need for increased funding to improve deficiencies.  The group met Sept. 5 in Kent at the Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority’s Kent Central Gateway multimodal transit center. Ryan discussed a report that awarded the United States an overall D+ grade in infrastructure and suggested that the nation needs to invest trillions of dollars in future transportation.

Kent State University’s College of Education, Health and Human Services will honor seven distinguished alumni at its fifth annual Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.
