For 30 years, Kent State University’s Wick Poetry Center has been encouraging new voices – locally, regionally and nationally – and bringing poetry to people’s everyday lives through readings, publications, workshops and scholarships. Now, the Wick Poetry Center, part of the College of Arts and Sciences, begins a new era by relocating from Satterfield Hall to the Lefton Esplanade.

Kent State University Fashion School graduate Anastasia Iafrate was named this year’s winner of the prestigious Supima Design Competition during a Sept. 4 event at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Iafrate, who graduated in May with a Bachelor of Arts in fashion design, beat out finalists from five other institutions to win the award, which carries a $10,000 prize.

Alumni, donors and other friends of Kent State University will soon have a comfortable and convenient home base when they visit the Kent Campus as a result of today’s (Sept. 17) vote of the university’s Board of Trustees to proceed with the construction of a building for the Division of Institutional Advancement. The Institutional Advancement division oversees the university’s private fund-raising activities and the Office of Alumni Relations, which in turn oversees the Kent State University Alumni Association.

The fall 2014 Bowman Breakfast will take place at Kent State University in the Kent Student Center Ballroom on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Doors open at 7 a.m., breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m., and the program will follow at 8 a.m.

Kent State University is embarking on a campaign to motivate and assist students toward timely graduation. The university’s “Formula to Finish” initiative encourages students to register for and pass at least 15 credit hours per semester in order to graduate in two years to get their associate degree or four years for a bachelor’s degree, and save time and money in the process. Kent State’s Undergraduate Studies oversees the “Formula to Finish” initiative for all students at Kent State’s eight campuses.

May 4, 1970, was a watershed moment for the country and especially the Kent State family. We lost four students that day while nine others were wounded and countless others were changed forever.   We take great offense to a company using our pain for their publicity and profit. This item is beyond poor taste and trivializes a loss of life that still hurts the Kent State community today.
