Kolbe Promoted to Associate Dean for Kent State’s College of Business Administration (06/01/2009)

Yank Heisler, dean of the Kent State University College of Business Administration, recently announced the hiring of Richard “Rick” Kolbe, Ph.D. as the associate dean for faculty. In his new role, Kolbe will be responsible for assisting Heisler in encouraging faculty research, supporting teaching excellence and shaping curriculum for the business school.

“We had a number of quality candidates, but Rick’s skill set and experience fit the position requirements the closest. I look forward to working with him in his new position and I’m confident our faculty will continue to benefit from his leadership,” Heisler says.

Already known and respected in the College of Business Administration, Kolbe has been the chairperson for the Department of Marketing for the past five years and a Kent State faculty member for a total of 17 years. Prior to joining Kent State University, Kolbe was a faculty member at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo., and Washington State University, Pullman, Wash.

“I am excited to be taking on the challenges that come with this new position and thrilled to be working on Yank’s team,” Kolbe says. “As the college approaches its 75th anniversary, it already has a host of unique offerings for students, from the Olga A. Mural Financial Engineering Trading Floor to the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Development and everything in between. I look forward to working closely with my fellow faculty members and our community partners to add to what is already a world-renowned facility in order to take the college to a new and higher level of excellence.”

Kolbe’s teaching interests at the undergraduate, MBA and doctoral levels cover a wide area within his field including marketing management, marketing theory and marketing research. His research involves issues related to children and advertising, gender roles in advertising, loyalty among fans of professional sports teams, and the use of content analysis date collection methods. He has authored articles that have appeared in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising as well as other academic journals and professional proceedings. Kolbe has also served as a research consultant and expert witness for corporations. He lives in Stow, Ohio, and originally hails from North Tonawanda, N.Y.
