Porthouse Continues 2009 Summer Season with Neil Simon Classic “The Odd Couple” (06/30/2009)

John Woodson (L) as Oscar and Eric van Baars (R) as FelixPorthouse Theatre, Kent State University’s summer outdoor theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Theatre, continues its 2009 summer season with the Neil Simon classic comedy “The Odd Couple” running July 2 through 18.  Shows run Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. For tickets call 330-672-3884.  For more information, visit www.porthousetheatre.com.  Porthouse is located at 1145 W. Steels Corners Road, Cuyahoga Falls, OH.

Directed by Rohn Thomas, the cast includes the talents of Kent State professor and well-known Cleveland-area actor Eric van Baars as Felix Unger and John Woodsonas Oscar Madison. Van Baars was last seen on the Porthouse stage as Harold Hill, in the loved-musical The Music Man, while his talents as a choreographer were recently enjoyed by audiences for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Woodson is a professional actor currently living in South Carolina who has appeared locally on the stages of the Cleveland Play House and Great Lakes Theatre Festival. This is Thomas’ directorial debut at Porthouse, but he recently directed “A Perfect Wedding” at Weathervane Theatre. Thomas teaches Acting for the Camera at Kent State and  is also a professional actor who has appeared in such big screen movies as The Shawshank Redemption, The Mothman Prophecies and  Welcome to Collinwood, just to name a few.  The remaining cast includes Paul Floriano (Speed), Chuck Richie (Murray), Tony Zanoni (Roy) Arthur Wise (Vinnie), Elizabeth Ann Townsend (Gwendolyn Pigeon) and Katherine Burke (Cecily Pigeon).

The Odd Couple is regarded as one of Broadway’s funniest comedies. The story of two desperately mismatched roommates makes for some of the funniest material.  One neat and tidy and particular, the other a poker-playing slob, creates one of America’s best-loved nontraditional dysfunctional couples!

“If audiences thought Forum was funny, they are in for an even bigger treat with this show,” said Artistic Director Terri Kent. “Just as I predicted - van Baars and Woodson are oozing with chemistry – it’s going to be fantastic!”

Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 330-672-3884. Box office hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Tickets range from $27 - $33 adults; $24 - $33 seniors; $15 - $19 students.  The box office accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover.  The box office is located at Kent State University in the Music and Speech Center at 1325 Theatre Drive, Kent, OH.  The box office at the theatre opens 90 minutes prior to curtain.
