Profile:

As a Career Counselor, I encourage all students and alumni to successfully engage in the career development process.  I am passionate about facilitating the self-assessment process for exploratory students, as well as assisting all students and alumni with a successful job search process.  My goal is to help students and alumni with making "connections" between their strengths, goals, experiences and careers.

Education

I am proud of being an alum of KSU, graduating with my Bachelor's of General Studies degree (with minors in Psychology and Sociology) and continuing on with my MA in Higher Education Administration from The University of Akron.  In addition, I am also a Certified Myers Briggs Interpreter.

How I Got Here

As an undergraduate student at KSU, I worked on campus at the Academic Success Center as a Counseling Peer Mentor.  My experience at the Academic Success Center fostered my love for working with students in higher education.  After graduating from KSU, I spent some time at home with my two daughters and fully developed my "transferable skills".  I began working part time for a while in retail, but found that I was truly missing my work with students on campus.  I enrolled in graduate school and was fortunate enough to work in The University of Akron's Career Center as the Career Counseling Graduate Assistant.  This experience allowed me the opportunity to work with all students and alumni and fueled my passion for working in Career Services.  I have since held other positions in higher education, working as an Academic Adviser at The University of Akron.

Most Unusual Job Held

After the birth of my second daughter, I re-entered the work force part time as a Package Car Washer for UPS.  I spend my entire shift lugging around a hose and mega scrub brush that was at least twice as long as I am tall!  I endured over three months of intensive labor and also managed to get a great work out as well!

About Me

I am an ENFP personality that thoroughly enjoys connecting with new folks.  I enjoy reading, camping and spending time with my family.  I have two daughters that keep me busy outside of work with activities such as dance and girl scouts!

Best Advice for Students

Take the time to discover what you love and what careers are in line with your skills and values.  Asking questions is also very important and essential to understanding your career options -- also knowing who to ask is important.  Utilizing resources such as the Career Services Center early in your college career will assist you with this exploration.  I am here to help you get started!
