Kent State University’s Homecoming took place Saturday, Oct. 20. Sponsored by the Kent State University Alumni Association, the day was filled with tradition and exciting activities. One highlight includes The Golden Flashes win over the Western Michigan Broncos, 41-24.

Kent State beats Rutgers, 35-23, and advances to a six-game winning streak on Saturday, Oct. 27, at High Point Stadium. This makes it the first time the Golden Flashes have beat a ranked team in 23 tries. Facts In A Flash

Kent State University’s College of Nursing has been selected as a recipient of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Innovations in Professional Nursing Education Award. The awards program recognizes the outstanding work of AACN member schools to re-envision traditional models for nursing education and lead programmatic change. 
The Kent State University May 4 Visitors Center features images, artifacts and multimedia to tell the story of the decade leading up to May 4, 1970, the events of that day, the aftermath and the historical impact.

New center tells the May 4 story, set against the political and cultural changes of the 1960s Kent State University officially opened its much-anticipated May 4 Visitors Center on Saturday, Oct. 20, as part of the university’s Homecoming celebration. The public was invited to experience the center’s dramatic exhibits at an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton has appointed Cleveland-area trial lawyer José C. Feliciano as the 2012-2013 President’s Ambassador.
Pictured is the Student Green, as seen one week prior to its dedication from the roof of the Kent Student Center. Located at the heart of the campus, the new Student Green is a place for students to relax, study and enjoy. It also provides outdoor programming space to student organizations on campus and offers a performance stage that is intended to support student use.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Student Green at Kent State University was held Oct. 18. The event celebrated Kent State’s commitment to provide outdoor programming space to student organizations on campus. The event, which was free and open to the public, took place at the new space in the Kent Student Center area, located at the heart of the campus.

New commercials for Kent State University are now airing as the university debuts a new television campaign. The new campaign builds on the university’s successful “Experience for Life” series that launched September 2010. The new campaign includes four 30-second commercials and highlights Kent State students in a variety of situations – participating in the classroom, getting advice from faculty, being mentored by successful alumni and competing for academic recognition.

Kent State University has increased enrollment, surpassing last year’s record and reaching a new all-time high with the release of the university’s official 15th day census data. For the eight-campus system, Kent State reports a strong enrollment of 42,513 students for the Fall 2012 semester. In Fall 2011, overall enrollment was 42,185 students. The unduplicated (or preponderant) headcount at the Kent Campus increased by 2.85 percent to 27,706 students with the number of full-time equivalent students, or FTEs, up 3.16 percent, so students are taking more hours.
Kent State University senior English major Alexandria Rhodes partnered with a group of friends to raise $70,000 for tsunami victims in Japan.

After the tsunami hit Japan in 2011, like most young people her age, Kent State senior English major Alexandria Rhodes of Tallmadge, Ohio, turned to Twitter for updates about the disaster. But rather than just monitor events from across the pond, she was moved by the plight of the victims and went a step further by getting involved. With help from friends, Rhodes decided to raise funds to help the victims. What began as a goal to raise $5,000 resulted in the team collecting close to $70,000 within just three months.
