Oct. 10, 2011 ~ On the Home Front: Civil War Fashions and Domestic Life is now on display at the Kent State University Museum through Aug. 26, 2012. The exhibit focuses on the daily life and experiences of the American civilian population during the Civil War and the years immediately following.
Sept. 26, 2011 ~ Another big milestone in the $100-million redevelopment of downtown Kent, Ohio, was achieved with the groundbreaking of the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center on Sept. 19.
Sept. 19, 2011 ~ Ranked as the 3rd best fashion school in the U.S. and 13th in the world, the Fashion School at Kent State was recently designated an Ohio Center of Excellence.
Aug. 22, 2011 ~ Fairmount Properties, with its partners Premier Development Partners LLC and BUD Kent LLC, and members of the Kent community marked the beginning of construction of a 185,000 square-foot development which will house the offices of the Davey Tree Resource Group, Ametek, Inc. and a number of new retailers and restaurants.

Recognizing the need to facilitate the transfer of students from Stark State College to Kent State University to pursue and achieve their educational goals, Kent State President Lester A. Lefton and Stark State President John O'Donnell sign an institutional articulation agreement. The agreement eases the transfer process and promotes the closer coordination of academic courses, programs and degrees offered by the two institutions.
Theodore Albrecht, professor of musicology at Kent State, recently received a Distinguished Scholar Award for his work in classical and romantic music.
Kent State University head football coach Darrell Hazell and the university's football coaching staff host an "A" Ladies Must Get "A's" women's football clinic at Dix Stadium. Kent State coaches shared inside knowledge, giving women the opportunity to participate in drills on offense, defense and special teams.
Dr. Sung Tae Shin, senior vice president of Samsung's LCD Center in South Korea, recently visited Kent State to discuss the university's groundbreaking research involving new applications for liquid crystal display technologies. Shin, who received his Ph.D. from Kent State in 1994, met with representatives of the Liquid Crystal Institute and other faculty members to review progress on two research grant projects funded by Samsung.
Declan Keane, a physics faculty member at Kent State, made headlines in 2010 when his research group discovered the heaviest antimatter nucleus in existence.
On March 19, 2011, Kent State junior Dustin Kilgore etched his name into Golden Flashes history, pinning Oklahoma State's Clayton Foster in the 197-pound final.
Kent State University hosts its 9th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 27, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the Kent Student Center. The event will feature Kweisi Mfume, diversity advocate, TV and radio commentator and former president of the NAACP, as its keynote speaker.
