The Tuscarawas County University Foundation is holding their 2014 annual campaign For the Future. The Foundation was created in 1968 to sustain and advance a high standard of education and excellence at Kent State University at Tuscarawas. Funds raised through the campaign are used for student scholarships and student loans, as well as providing excellent educational facilities and equipment.
The campaign was launched at Kent State Tuscarawas Oct. 14 with a kick-off luncheon for faculty, staff, board of trustees and Tuscarawas County University Foundation board members. The event included presentations by Dr. Bradley Bielski, dean and chief administrative officer, Dr. Mike Morelli and Dr. John Jewell, as well as a video testimonial by Raya Williamson, a sophomore marketing major.
“We are asking the community to help us support our hardworking students by making a gift to our For the Future Founders Fund benefiting student scholarships and student support services,” said Chad Conrad, director of advancement. “Students like Raya Williamson are an excellent example of the types of students who receive vital scholarships through our campus’ Tuscarawas County University Foundation.”
Williamson is a student ambassador and honors student, who plans to pursue a tourism career. “Scholarships make the possibility of higher education a reality for many individuals, including me,” said Williamson. “Earning a scholarship is the best reward someone can receive; it is the gift of an education and a reason to keep striving.”
Williamson chose Kent State Tuscarawas because it is local, friendly and affordable. “You are not a number. Small class sizes allow for discussion and plenty of one-on-one time with professors,” Williamson added. “The campus offers students a quality education for a reasonable cost. When I graduate from Kent State Tuscarawas, I know I won't be weighed down with debt.”
According to Bielski, “We’re constantly inspired by students like Raya who have chosen to build their futures at Kent State Tuscarawas and who plan to use those futures in exceptional ways. We encourage the community to donate to the Foundation’s annual fund to assist us in providing these essential scholarships and modern campus learning resources.”
