Tips for Students Attending Education Employment Day (EED)

Before EED

  1. Polish your resume and have it critiqued during M-F daily drop-in hours.
  2. Register with Handshake (required to participate in EED) - for Jobs and Internships.
  3. Attend the Education SuperStart workshop.
  4. Research targeted school districts on the K-12 Jobs tab to help you answer questions and formulate questions to ask the interviewer.
  5. Professional interview attire is required. Your appearance is the first impression employers will have of you!
  6. Practice your interviewing skills online with InterviewStream or schedule an in-person mock interview.
  7. Review top teacher employment questions.

During EED

  1. Parking in the Student Center Visitor lot is limited, so allow plenty of time to secure a spot.
  2. Bring at least 25 copies of your resume, a folder with notepad, pens and a compact version of your portfolio (optional).
  3. Bring ONLY the necessary items. While coat racks are available, we are not responsible for missing items.
  4. Check-in and print a nametag using your Flashcard on the third floor
  5. Schedule interviews with administrators during the Employer Meet & Greet from 8:45-10:00.  Be mindful of your priority schools and gauge line waits so as to garner as many interviews as possible.
  6. Maintain professional behavior at all times. Do not approach interview tables at non-scheduled times and do not be late. An announcement will be made to inform candidates when it is time to move to the the appropriate table for each scheduled interview.
  7. When approaching the table, establish eye contact with the representative and use a firm handshake when introducing yourself. Provide representatives with a copy of your professional resume.
  • Be prepared to verbally provide a summary of your background, achievements, and career aspirations.
  • Be prepared to articulate your strengths, skills, goals, and why you have an interest in the represented school.
  • Ask for school system literature, an application, and the interviewer's business card for follow-up after your interview.
  • Ask what happens next in the hiring process, and what you can do to advance your candidacy.
  • At the end of the interview, extend a firm handshake and express appreciation for the employer's time in speaking with you.
  1. After each interview, return to the waiting area via the stairs at the rear of the Ballroom.
  2. Do not linger on the Ballroom floor or approach a table without a scheduled interview.
  3. The Interview Cancellation and No Show Policy is in effect for all interviews.

After EED

  1. Within 48 hours, send a thank-you note to all administrators you spoke with.
  2. Keep detailed records of all school contacts, interviews, applications, and references sent.
  3. Make follow-up phone calls with the district about two-three weeks after your interview.
