Graduate Student Awards for the Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates & Students

Sponsored Programs is coordinating nominations for the Graduate Student Awards for the Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students in Lindau, Germany. Award recipients will receive a travel grant to attend the 66th Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students, June 26 –July 1, 2016.  The 2016 Focus is Physics

To be eligible, a student must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, have completed by June 2016 two academic years of study toward a doctoral degree in Physics or related discipline, but not be planning a dissertation/thesis defense before December 31, 2016; be currently enrolled at Kent State University as a full-time graduate student; and must be participating in a funded research project.

There is an institutional limit of two nominations for Kent State University. If you wish to nominate a graduate student for this award please contact the Sponsored Programs Office at x2-2070 or via email to Diana Skok at dskok@kent.edu no later than Wednesday, September 30, 2015. If more than two students are nominated, an internal competition will be conducted. 

Institutional Timeline for Nominations:

Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015

Notify Sponsored Programs of your desire to nominate a student.
Information required includes:
Student name, student email address, confirmation that the student meets eligibility requirements, funding source for student's current research project, and name and contact information of the nominating PI.

Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 

Nominated students are notified. Instructions are provided for the application process.

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015

Application materials are due for the internal competition (in the even that more than two students are nominated).  
These materials, to be submitted by email to dskok@kent.edu include:

  • 2 page personal resume of the applicant

  • 1 page letter of reference from the applicant's advisor
    and

  • 1 page essay written by the nominee describing why participation in the Lindau meeting is important for the nominee's education

Students and PIs are informed of the results of the internal competition.

Friday, Oct. 16, 2015

Due date for electronic submission of nominations for selected students.
