International Student Career Boot Camp 2017

Event Information for International Students

Career Exploration and Development is hosting a unique career focused event for international students at Kent State University. International students are encouraged to attend this workshop series:

  • To prepare for seeking full-time, part-time, internship/co-op, and on-campus student employment.
  • To gain an understanding of cultural expectations of professionalism in the U.S.A.
  • To better understand the legal requirements for working in the United States
  • To earn the Career Ready certificate that can be added as an achievement to resumes and can be used as a talking point during career fairs.
  • To be eligible to become an “International Career Ambassador” which will be considered a leadership position on campus.
  • In addition to the educational and interactive sessions about careers, students will also get an opportunity to learn from a panel of KSU’s international faculty and staff about their personal journeys and experiences.
  • Breakfast will be provided.

This fall, international students have the opportunity to earn the Career Ready Certificate. This event would enable International students to receive up to 70 points towards the Career Ready Certificate. For more information about this certificate, please refer to the section on the Career Ready Certificate below.

 

Pre-Registration:

  • While registration is not required, students who pre-register for the event will earn 5 points towards the Career Ready Certificate.

Career Ready Certificate – International Students Only

  • The career ready certificate may be earned by a student who accumulates at least 150 career points by May 4, 2018.
  • A student may include the career ready certification on their resume.
  • International Students who have successfully earned the Career Ready Certificate will be given special badges to wear for the Spring Career Fair in 2018, so employers can easily identify them as Career Ready students. Students may earn the certificate if they receive ALL 150 points prior to the fair.
  • Finally, International students who earn the Career Ready certificate will be eligible to apply to be an International Career Ambassador position through Career Exploration and Development. For questions about this position, please email Krittika Grau at kgrau1@kent.edu
  • To receive career points, a student may attend a variety of career events or utilize CED’s resources (listed below) and get their “Career Ready Passports” stamped as proof of attendance. Each event is worth points. Students may earn their certificate if they have a minimum of 150 points by May 4, 2018.
  • DO NOT LOSE YOUR PASSPORTS as that is a student’s only way of receiving the Career Ready Certificate.
    • Passports will be provided at the Boot Camp or may be picked up at the CED office (Monday-Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, starting September 1, 2017).
    • To receive the Career Ready Certificate, submit your stamped passport to Krittika Grau, in the CED office, by May 4, 2018, 5 p.m.
    • Points may be added retroactively for events if students provide proof of attendance or if no proof is available, they may write a one-page, double-spaced paper to write about their experience of attending the event and highlight what they learned as a result of attending the event.
