Claymont High School Graduate Signs With Softball Team

Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a Claymont High School recent graduate to their softball team. On June 22, Sabrina Smith signed a Letter of Intent to play for the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles Softball Team.

Smith was a three-year letter winner and pitched for the Mustangs softball team. She had a great senior season and capped a great career by earning First Team East District and First Team East Central Ohio League honors, while also being named Claymont’s Offensive Player of the Year with a .493 batting average. Smith led her team with 36 hits and 14 doubles in 2017 to go along with 22 RBIs. She had a lofty .753 slugging percentage, a .549 on base percentage and an impeccable fielding average of .929. On the mound she recorded 12 wins against 6 losses with a 2.98 ERA. She has been very active playing travel ball for eight years, most recently for Diamond Elite and TC Fury. She will major in psychology at Kent State Tuscarawas.

“It’s exciting to have Sabrina commit to wearing blue and gold next year,” said Chuck Peach, Head Softball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. “Beneath her quiet exterior is a beast that gets unleashed every time she gets between the first and third baselines. We will rely heavily on her pitching, but look forward to her moving runners around the bases as well when she’s at the plate. She brings a huge skillset to our team.”

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
