William Kaib earns Delta Pilot Wings

William Kaib has become the first Kent State University student to complete the Delta Propel program and earn his wings as a Delta Airlines pilot!  Kaib, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, wanted to be a pilot long before stepping foot on Kent State’s campus. “Nobody in my family is a pilot or in the aviation industry at all but my grandfather used to fly model aircraft all the time and I loved watching him do that. Congratulations are in order for the Kent State University Precision Flight Team for another successful appearance at the National Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON), hosted by the National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s (NIFA). The team competed from May 8th through May 13th in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Teams compete in regional SAFECON events throughout the year to qualify for the National competition. Introduction to Engineering Hovercrafts

On May 3rd, students in Dr. Kelsen LaBerge’s Introduction to Engineering course demonstrated their Hovercraft projects. This project serves as a class capstone, where the 79  students in the course were divided into 13 teams that must successfully design, build, and fly a hovercraft that adheres to a specified budget.  Students work with their teams to come up with a preliminary design before giving a presentation of their work. On Tuesday, May 2nd, Manufacturing Works hosted Reaching New Heights in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM): Opportunities in Autonomous Vehicles in partnership with the College of Aeronautics and Engineering and the Northeast Ohio Flight Information Exchange.
