Celebrate Earth Day by browsing the Belden Brick Materials Library collection and discovering its relevance to interiors, fashion, art, architecture, and other disciplines. Learn how the Materials Connexion database is used to locate sustainable products. Enjoy refreshments while creating an Earth-friendly craft. Finally, rescue books and other extra materials by giving them a new home! The Morbito Architectural Library often receives donations that are not added to the collection. Take a free book for your personal library or to repurpose for a project (while supplies last).

School of Music Guest Artist, Matthew Polenzani, Lyric Tenor

With a stellar career spanning decades, Polenzani has graced prestigious stages, including his debut at the Met Opera in 1998. Renowned for his mastery of roles in Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, and Bizet, he has captivated audiences worldwide.

Crafting Your Total Eclipse Experience with Dr. Jon Secaur

Don’t be caught in the dark! Join Jon Secaur, '72, Ph.D. '94, emeritus professor, to make your own eclipse viewer, ensuring you catch every breathtaking moment of the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. Participants will also have opportunities to explore the solar system via augmented and virtual reality, and craft eclipse-themed buttons and tote bags. This event is free and open to community members, Kent State alumni, students, faculty and staff.

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. apply the event planning process in the design, implementation, and evaluation of special events
  2. integrate event planning principles in a variety of settings including hospitality, sport, recreation, and tourism
  3. gain practical experience in event planning
Admissions

Admission Requirements

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.

To declare this minor, students must have attempted a minimum 12 credit hours at Kent State and earned a minimum 2.000 overall Kent State GPA. Students who have not attempted 12 credit hours at Kent State will be evaluated for admission based on their high school GPA for new students or transfer GPA for transfer students. Transfer students who have not attempted 12 credit hours of college-level coursework at Kent State and/or other institutions will be evaluated based on both their high school GPA and college GPA.

With permission, students may register for HEM 23030, SPAD 45022, and RPTM 36075 without completion of the prerequisite courses.

Students may repeat the practicum for maximum 3 credit hours with advisor approval.

Students not enrolled in the Hospitality/Event Management; Sport Administration or Recreation, Park and Tourism major (or one of their related minors) must select at least one course from each of the three categories. Students enrolled in one of those three majors or a related minor must select one course from each of the two categories that are not their major or minor; remaining coursework may be selected from any of the three categories or consist of an approved elective.
