A Word From Dean Dzurec

A word from Dean Dzurec

As you begin your search to find the nursing program that best fits your needs, we want to thank you for considering Kent State University College of Nursing.

I have been a nurse for over 30 years. My career has taken me from bedside, to classroom, to board room. Having been a faculty member at Kent and returning 20 years later to serve as Dean of the College of Nursing, I can tell you there's no place like Kent State College of Nursing. Our commitment to students, research and the nursing profession is nothing less than impressive.

We are the largest, most comprehensive nursing program in the state of Ohio. Since the inception of our program 45 years ago, we have educated and graduated over 9,000 nurses. During that time, we have earned a reputation for the excellent academic performance, clinical knowledge, and leadership ability of our students and graduates.

Evidence of this impressive combination is our significant number of nurse leaders. Among them is Rebecca M. Patton BSN '80 who served two consecutive terms as president of the American Nurses Association.

Whether president of a national nursing organization or committee member of a statewide organization; chief nursing officer or chief flight nurse; lead research nurse at a world-renowned healthcare agency or part of a research team; faculty member or clinical preceptor; our graduates consistently go beyond the role of RN to further advance the nursing profession.

If there's one piece of advice I may offer to you as you look to begin your career, or to continue to advance your career in nursing, is to strive to make a difference in everything you do! As we face a national shortage of nurses, know that however you prepare yourself and continually educate yourself in this fast-paced, ever-changing profession will literally impact EVERYONE!

As you browse the pages of our website and learn more about Kent State University College of Nursing, I encourage you to contact our faculty and staff to answer your questions and to assist you throughout your decision-making process. Although a picture may be worth a thousand words, visiting us in person is best way to know for sure if the College of Nursing is a good fit for you.

We look forward to meeting you!

Thank you,

Laura Cox Dzurec
