Mary Lou Ferranto - MSN, CNP
I have been fortunate to be at Kent State University for almost 19 years as an assistant professor of nursing and the Campus Coordinaotr for the BSN program at the Columbiana Campuses.
While at KSU I have taught in all levels in the BSN program as well as graduate Nurse Practitioner students for the Kent campus. After completing my BSN I moved to Boston and worked at Beth Israel hospital as a Surgical ICU nurse. I then moved to New York city and worked at New York University's Medical Center in the CVICU and recovery room. Several more moves brought me to Pittsburgh at Allegheny General Hospital as Clinical coordinator of the surgical ICU where I implemented a Cardiac transplant program for nursing. I have also worked as a Medical Legal consultant. I am a practicing Certified Nurse Practitioner with the Renal Group In Boardman Ohio where I focus on CKD Stage V patients.
I have presented at numerous national, international and community based conferences. In addition, I have submitted six grant proposals, all to enhance the learning experience of her students and received three of these grants. I was the recipient of an Innovation grant during the Spring of 2010.
My MSN from La Roche College is in Nursing Administration and Managemen. I also have a Post Master's Certification from Kent StateUniversity as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. I am a PhD candidate from the College of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and I will defend my dissertation during the Fall semester 2012
My area of research is the Development Cultural Humility in the Nursing Student . I have taken BSN students to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota , the World Health Organization, the UN and the International Refugee Center in Geneva, Switzerland and to Orphangaes, HIV clinics and hospitals in Tanzania to expose students to diverse cultrues and global health care needs.
