Abstract:
There are approximately 2.5 million active and reserve members of the U.S. military and nearly 24 million U.S. veterans. They and their families face life and health challenges that differ from those of civilians. Families may have to cope with deployment and separation from each other; illnesses and injuries of their returning veteran; and mental health effects of military service, disruptions in parenting and caregiver stress. The purposes of this program are to explore the mental health needs of veterans and their families and to describe available services.
