Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
The Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner concentration prepares students to provide advanced acute and chronic comprehensive care to adults throughout their lives. You will learn a wide variety of procedures and gain experience in moderate to high-acuity clinical settings where patient care requirements include complex monitoring and therapies.
The demand for Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners has grown rapidly along with the complexity in the acute healthcare environment. As an AGACNP, you’ll provide advanced nursing and specialized medical care to adults with complex, acute and chronic illnesses. In addition to managing patient care, you will utilize invasive interventions and procedures to promote physiologic stability. You may work in a variety of acute and hospital-based settings such as specialty clinics, emergency departments, and acute, sub-acute, and intensive/critical care areas, as well as post-acute settings including homes, ambulatory care, urgent care, and rehabilitative care.
As a AGACNP student, we offer you:
- A flexible curriculum with many online courses and full- and part-time options
- A minimum of 630 clinical hours of supervised clinical practice
- Fall and spring semester start dates
The AGACNP concentration at the master's level is a minimum of 40 credit hours, and can be completed in as little as two (2) years, or if part time, in three (3) years.
The ideal applicant to this concentration will have 3-5 years of nursing experience with 2 years of intensive care experience, a good working knowledge of the Nurse Practitioner role (preferably have shadowed AGACNP's), references from persons able to attest to your nursing skills and ability to represent the NP role, and proven skills in leadership, mentoring and a commitment to the growth of their profession.
