How To Apply


Application and Admission

We invite you to apply for admission if you meet the following requirements:

  • You are licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Ohio Board of Nursing
  • You have earned a BSN and/or MSN degree from an accredited nursing program. Note: a registered nurse with a baccalaureate degree in a non nursing, health-related field from an accredited university may be eligible for admission at the discretion of the Program Director.
  • You have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Application and admission occurs in a two-step process that involves first, KSU Research and Graduate Studies and second, the College of Nursing Graduate Faculty and Graduate Office.

A.  First Step

  • Complete the KSU Graduate Studies Online application.
  • Include in your application as an attachment, a 300-word essay that describes your reason for pursuing graduate study within your chosen concentration.  
  • Submit an official transcript in a sealed envelope from each college or university (except Kent State University) in which 9 semester hours or more were earned sent directly to:

  • Submit scores of the Graduate Record Exam or Miller's Analogy Test (to the above address) if your undergraduate GPA is less than 3.0. Please note, your undergraduate GPA will be calculated by the Office of Graduate Services using all credits earned at universities for 9 or more semester hours. The GRE is required for dual degree applicants,regardless of undergraduate GPA.

  • Submit 3 letters of recommendation(also to the above address)completed by persons who are familiar with your work experience, clinical skills, and educational goals. Two of the individuals should have academic degrees comparable to at least an MSN. A letter of recommendation form is available in printable format; attaching a descriptive statement in addition, however, is strongly encouraged.

    • B.  Second Step

    1.  You will be notified by KSU Research and Graduate Studies when your application is complete and has been sent to the College of Nursing. When it is received, the Graduate Office Secretary notifies your chosen concentration program director that you have applied to that concentration

    2.  An interview, by telephone or in person, will be arranged by the program director. The interview is used to establish a fit between your goals and the objectives of the chosen concentration.

    3.  Admission is determined by members of a graduate faculty committee who provide a holistic review of the required documents and interview results stated above.Application Deadlines

    • Fall 2014 - December 1st 2013

    Women's Health NP, Nurse Educator, Adult Gerontoloty CNS, Pediatric NP, Pediatric CNS, Nursing and Health Care Management, MSN-MBA, MSN-MPA,Psychiatric Mental Healthand corresponding Post-Masters Certificates:

    • Fall 2013- June 1st, 2013

    Health Policy Requirements

    RN-BSN/MSN
    Students who meet requirements for admission to the graduate nursing program, may apply to the Graduate College and enroll in selected graduate courses while completing the last two semesters of the requirements for the BSN degree.
