Additional Hardware

USB Headset with Microphone
  • A good USB headset with microphone is recommended for online courses that require creating audio content or interacting with students synchronously online using audio. Older headsets with 3.5mm jacks will work, however, USB headsets produce higher quality audio recordings.

Handheld Digital Recorder

  • A hand held digital audio recorder may be preferred for "untethered" audio recording for creating course content. To achieve the highest quality audio recording a lapel mic should be used in conjunction with a hand held audio recorder. The digital audio recorder MUST be able to save audio files to the .mp3 file format.

USB Web Camera

  • A USB camera is recommended for capturing video using a desktop or laptop computer. High definition video capabilities at 720p resolution will produce higher quality results than standard 480p resolution cameras. Other features to consider are: built-in microphone with echo and noise reduction, light correction technology, and automatic face tracking. Be sure to check operating system requirements and platform compatibility.
