Economic Development & Strategic Partnerships

Responding to Economic Needs in Northeast Ohio
The Economic Development and Strategic Partnerships team works to identify and respond to economic needs in Northeast Ohio. We initiate and facilitate broad regional opportunities to stimulate economic revitalization and facilitate workforce transition.

We align the university’s expertise and resources with regional needs, particularly in the areas of research, science, technology and business. Often, this happens as we connect with business and industry through groups like Team NEO, NorTech, JumpStart, Polymer Ohio and BioEnterprise.

Our focus is on key industrial clusters: advanced materials/polymers/liquid crystals, biosciences, information technology, power and propulsion and financial services.

Economic Development and Strategic Partnerships also acts as a liaison to comprehensive university and community resources:

  • Research and testing capabilities
  • Technology partnerships
  • Entrepreneurial assistance
  • Support for business growth and development
  • Connectivity to the university’s many specialized centers and institutes

In partnership with the Technology Transfer Office in Research and Graduate Studies, Economic Development and Strategic Partnerships seeks to make the university’s research and technology capabilities available to companies in Northeast Ohio to stimulate new product development and expand corporate technology portfolios.

Our combination of resources also facilitates the creation of new Kent State University-related start-up companies to stimulate partnerships with the university, engage faculty and students and provide economic benefit to the region and state.
