Disability Permits

In accordance with Kent State University administrative policy 4-08.1, persons with a temporary or permanent physical disability who require special parking consideration must obtain a state-issued disability placard as well as a valid Kent State University disability parking permit. Persons with a short-term disability (one month or less) can obtain a temporary disability parking permit.

The purpose of this policy is to help identify where disability spaces are needed, regulate the use of these spaces to ensure they are available for those who need them, and to discourage abuse by people "borrowing" a state placard issued to another person.

There are two types of disability permits that are issued by Parking Services:

Disability Permit

To purchase a KSU disability permit you will be required to bring your state-issued disability placard, the registration for the placard and a valid picture ID to the Parking Services office.

Your information will be placed on file in Parking Services until it expires.  When the state-issued placard expires, a copy of the replacement registration and placard should be submitted to Parking Services to update your file.

State–issued disability placards are available from each state’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  Information/applications for Ohio disability placards can be found here

Prices for disability permits are equal to the current faculty/staff or maximum student permit rates

Temporary "Lot" Disability Permit

Temporary lot parking is limited to two lots for both commuter and residence hall students (including the area near the residence hall).

Individuals requesting temporary lot parking or temporary disability parking must have their physician complete this Temporary Disability Permit Application. Please note: the completed application must be FAXED directly to Parking Services at 330-672-4034 by the signing physician.

The application can also be completed in the Parking Services Office and faxed from Parking Services to the physician for approval.

Parking Services will issue a temporary one-week disability/lot permit to use while waiting for authorization from the physician.  Once the form is returned from the physician, a temporary permit can be issued for a maximum of four weeks.  Current permit holders will not be charged for the temporary permit.  Those who do not have a current permit will be charged the weekly permit rate for students/staff.  If a permit is needed for a longer time period, a state-issued placard must be obtained.
