Social Events

Join conference attendees on and presenters on Wednesday, April 29, for an informal get-together at Bricco, right across the street from the Kent State University Hotel.  We'll be gathering in the bar area at 6 p.m., and taking a table for dinner at 7:30 p.m. Feel free to drop by, have a drink or dinner, and meet some serious Sellars scholars.  No reservation necessary, but do come prepared to pay for your own drinks and dinner.

There will be a wine and cheese reception on April 30 from 5 - 7 p.m. in Zena's, on the first floor of the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.  Appetizers are complimentary; there will be a full cash bar.

The Conference Banquet will be held on May 1 from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center.  The banquet includes choice of two drinks (wine, beer, etc.), appetizer buffet, salad course, choice of entree, and dessert.  The entree choices are:

  • Grilled Flank Steak with Red Wine & Veal Stock Reduction over Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes
  • Spinach and Mushroom Stuffed Chicken with Garlic Veloute over Roasted Redskin Potatoes
  • Portobello Mushrooms Stuffed with Herbed Chickpeas, Onions, Carrots and Cashews

All Registered Participants are invited.  Please email Deborah Barnbaum (dbarnbau@kent.edu) by April 22 to RSVP for the banquet, and please include your preference from among the above entree choices.  The cost of the banquet is $60 for faculty and $30 for graduate students, and will be payable by cash or check by the morning of May 1st.  Appetizers, a full dinner, two drinks, tax, and tip are included in the price; a cash bar for those who wish to enjoy additional drinks will be available.

Graduate Workshop

The Graduate Workshop will be an opportunity for emerging Sellars scholars to showcase and critique each others’ work in the company of faculty members.  The workshop will take place at Kent Central Gateway Conference Room, on the second floor of the PARTA Building, which is directly across from the Kent State Hotel and Conference Center.
