Upward Bound
Upward Bound

Upward Bound Classic  Serves 95 students in Trumbull and Summit counties; focuses on college readiness through an intensive summer component, monthly Saturday sessions and academic tutoring using a business theme

Upward Bound PREP Academy  Serves 50 students in Portage and Lorain counties; focuses on college readiness through intensive summer component and academic tutoring using a technology theme; includes a teen parent component

Upward Bound Math/Science Center  Serves 50 students in Stark and Trumbull counties; focuses on college readiness for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields through an intensive summer component and academic tutoring

Summer Upward Bound Bridge Program  Selected UB high school graduates earn a scholarship to participate in a summer residential experience that includes 7 credit hours of coursework, books, room and board

Science Day/Fair   Partnership with Upward Bound Math/Science students; science-based college organizations host high school student science fair event, tours of department and career awareness in the sciences. College science majors and faculty host day

Pre-College Programs / College Awareness and Outreach

Day in the Life of A College Student  Collaborative universitywide program to bring area high school students to Kent State for a day-long college experience. College readiness and admissions sessions, classroom experiences, and the incorporation of college students to serve as mentors create a unique opportunity for participants to see college life first hand

Teen Parent Mentoring Day   Day-long program designed to bring area high school teen parents to Kent State with a focus on college entrance, family support and tools for college parents, and academic success

STEM Outreach Days and Initiatives   Collaborative programs to bring local high school students to Kent State to visit the science departments, view active demonstrations, and interact with science faculty

Postsecondary Education Options Program   Dual-credit programs to allow area high school students to earn college and high school credit prior to high school graduation

Portage County P–16 Council   Portage countywide partnership with community, business, University, and public education to increase educational attainment and access

Portage County College Access Network   Local partnership with Kent State University, Community Action Council, Kent City Schools and Ravenna High School to increase college readiness starting in the middle schools
