Charles Hart, PhD, CIH, CSP, RS
Dr. Charles Hart is currently an Associate Professor of Environmental Health in the College of Public Health at Kent State University, Kent, OH, specializing in environmental and occupational health and safety (EOHS) practice and institutional and research EOHS. Chuck was previously the Executive Director of Environmental Health & Safety at Case Western Reserve University, a major private research institution and medical school in Cleveland, OH. He taught for three years in the Ohio University, School of Social & Public Health, Environmental & Occupational Health and Safety Program, while completing his PhD in Biological Sciences (Environmental Health). He was formerly Director of Environmental Health & Safety at Ohio University in Athens, OH, and was the Environmental Safety Coordinator at Ohio University for many years before becoming Director He served as the EHS industrial hygienist, chemical hygiene officer, and biosafety officer. He has also had previous experience in public health as a County Health Commissioner, County Director of Environmental Health, Epidemiologist with the state health department, and as a County Environmental Sanitarian.
Chuck received his BS in Environmental Health from Cleveland State University in 1976, MA in Health & Safety Education from Kent State University in 1980, and PhD in Biological Sciences, with a concentration in environmental health, at Ohio University in 2010. He is a board certified industrial hygienist; board certified safety professional, and a state and nationally registered sanitarian. He is a member of numerous professional associations, has published papers, presented professional presentations, and is active in the environmental health, safety, campus and institutional health & safety fields. Chuck has previously won the NEHA/NSF Sabbatical Exchange Award to the UK. He has serves on the Executive Committee of the Campus Safety, Health & Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA). Chuck is a member of the Ohio State Board of Sanitarian Registration.
