Dr. Brewer joined the Kent State University faculty in 2002 as part of the Department of Justice Studies. In 2004, he became a research fellow at the Institute for the Study and Prevention of Violence. He is a nationally recognized expert in the decision-making patterns of capital juries. He has also studied the temporal and spatial patterns of gun violence and violent crime. Dr. Brewer also designed the Northern Ohio Violent Injury Surveillance System. He has been awarded, as principle or co-principle investigator, more than $950,000 in extramural funding for his research and has authored 14 articles.
