William Ian Auld has been involved in theater - performing, touring and working technically - for the last twenty years. In addition to his duties teaching as Assistant Professor of Theater at Kent State Tuscarawas Campus and working in the Performing Arts Center there, he also continues to work professionally throughout the world. He recently founded Auld Entertainment, a company "dedicated to theatrical consulting and production work, and to the education of all theatrical practitioners to ensure a better standard in the safe, professional execution of our work." He is also a Flying Director for Hall Associates Flying Effects; a company specializing in performer rigging - the flying of performers on wires for live productions, recorded media and with circus arts events. He is one of only a few hundred people in the world who work professionally at this and one of only a few dozen people in the world currently recognized by the Entertainment Technician Certification Program as a Trainer and Rigger for Theater. In addition to that Mr. Auld serves on the ANSI national working group or rigging devising the national safety code for rigging in the United States.
Professionally he has worked in dozens of countries all over the world in North America, Asia, and Europe. He served as Technical Director for the Lookingglass Theater Company in Chicago, Venue Technician at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego and as a Flying Director at the Istana Budaya National Theater in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the behest of the Malaysian Royal Family. Prior to all this work in theater however, he spent several happy years of his life jumping out of perfectly good airplanes with the United States Army Airborne Corps.
