Alfred Gregory Oma’ Roberts

Alfred Gregory Oma’ Roberts was born and raised on the island of Bermuda and is the father to an eight-year-old boy, A’Jahni Roberts-Smith.
He has had the pleasure of being a Claims Clerk, Technical Assistant and then was promoted to Financial Analyst at Endurance Specialty Insurance (a fortune 500 insurance company). During his tenure at Endurance, he had the opportunity to attend numerous courses locally and internationally. Additionally he attended the Bermuda Insurance Institute, where he obtained his Associates in Reinsurance. Thereafter, he became the Claims Administrator at one of Bermuda’s newest reinsurance firms, Hiscox. At Hiscox he accomplished extensive traveling between the United States and London, for the purposes of systems training, developmental meetings and underwriting courses. Throughout this process he had the opportunity to develop their claims department (from ground up), as he was the only employee in this department.
Having the task of leaving his son to pursue a dream seemed to being daunting at the time but Mr. Roberts kept the bigger picture in mind, thus he ended up at Kent State University (KSU). Mr. Roberts was fortunate to be the recipient of two scholarships that greatly aided his pursuit of completing a Bachelor’s degree from ABIC and Partner Re, which also afforded him the opportunity to travel and work in Partner Re’s Paris, France office.
During his tenure at KSU Mr. Roberts was an active constituent in the community and on campus. On campus, Mr. Roberts was a member of Delta Sigma Pi – a business fraternity, where he held the role of VP of Scholarship and Awards and the VP of Pledge Education. Additionally, he was a member of the Undergraduate Student Government, where he was on the Allocations Committee. In his final year at Kent State he co-founded and co-chaired the Public Health Student Alliance, along with Frank Henry-Ala and Lorraine Odhiambo. Additionally, he also was actively involved in recruitment and promotion for the College of Public Health.
Mr. Roberts graduated from Kent State December 2011 magna cum laude withBachelor’s degrees in Public Health and Business Management and was awarded the “Outstanding Student Leadership Award” from the College of Public Health. July 2012, the Bermuda Government’s Environmental Health Department hired Alfred as a Trainee Environmental Health Officer. As part of the trainee program Mr. Roberts is currently completing his Master’s degree in Public Health with hopes to complete a Doctorate degree.
