Biography
Lorriane Achieng Odhiambo is a first year PhD student in the Kent State University College of Public Health. Lorriane is from Nairobi Kenya. She played basketball in the women’s division one basketball league at Kent State University (2008-2010), and also had the opportunity to represent her country in various national basketball assignments such as the “All African Games”. As a student-athlete, Lorriane earned the ‘female athlete of the month award’ in December 2009.
Lorriane holds a Bachelor’s in Integrated Health Studies (IHS), and a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health Sciences. While in the Master’s program, she co-founded the official student group for the Kent State University College of Public Health, the Public Health Student Alliance (PHSA). She was also the recipient of the 2012 Graduate Student Leader Award from the College of Public Health, the Volunteer of the Year Award for Kent State University (2011-2012) and the African Community Scholarship (2012).
Upon completing the PhD program in Epidemiology, Lorriane plans to work for a non-profit concerned with improving people’s health. She also aspires to establish and run a non-profit organization that will focus on eliminating disparities in slum areas around the world.
