Reappointment of James Bracken - Dean, University Libraries

May 8, 2015

I write today to announce the reappointment of Dr. Jim Bracken to a second five-year term as Dean of the University Libraries. Dean Bracken has opened the Kent library to ever-greater numbers of students, and we appreciate his efforts to make it a center not only of research and consultation, but of student brainstorming and discussion as well.

Respondents to surveys praised Dean Bracken's efforts to make the library more physically attractive and inviting. They praised his passion and his energy. In particular, I wish to thank him for his efforts to make the library an even greater site of student learning, and I appreciate his efforts to uphold the highest expectations for research and teaching for the faculty in his unit.

I also am impressed by his ready willingness to address comments and suggestions made in the context of this review.

The reappointment follows a rigorous review conducted by a committee comprised of professors and administrators. Please join me in thanking committee chair Donald Palmer, as well as committee members Linda Zucca, Jamie Salem, Edith Serkownek, and Kara Robinson, for their excellent service on the review committee.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Jim Bracken on his reappointment.

With warm regards,

Todd A. Diacon, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
