Acquire valuable practical skills for solving some of the greatest global public health challenges of today
The Course Structure:
This course aims to train participants in practical hands-on skills in simple, affordable appropriate technologies that can offer solutions for meeting basic health and human needs in the developing world at the household and community levels. Practical skills and technologies are organized into four modules: 1) agriculture, nutrition, food storage & preservation; 2) appropriate technologies for clean water and sanitation; 3) alternative household energy; and 4) microenterprise and community development. All four modules cover appropriate technologies that while meeting the basic needs have significant impact on health of the individuals and communities. Principles of participatory community development and sensitivity to cross-cultural, gender, and ecological issues will be emphasized throughout the training. This course is taught by 7-8 faculty with the background, expertise and years of practical experience in resource limited settings.

An estimated 925,000,000 people in the world are undernourished. One in three children is affected by malnutrition in developing countries. Poor nutrition contributes to over 5,000,000 child deaths every year globally.
