Listing by Charmaine Streharsky, Administrator, Sponsored Programs/RAGS, KSU

Dear Students - From time to time additions are made to this listing of external funding opportunities, some of which may be of particular interest to Kent State University graduate students, postdoctoral students, and their advisors.  IMPORTANT to note is that even published deadlines and guidelines from funding agency websites or printed materials (sources for this listing, for example) are subject to change, including critical items regarding eligibility criteria and application instructions.  Therefore, please seek current information DIRECTLY from the funding source.  KSU faculty members also receive periodic notices of funding opportunities from this office and elsewhere.  Be sure to seek advice too from advisors, chairs, department and dean’s offices for postings and/or knowledge, if you are looking for funding or other opportunities.

AWARDS FOR STUDY IN SCANDINAVIA 2006-7

Fellowships and grants are offered for advanced study or research in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.  Fellowships of up to $20,000 and grants (normally $4,000) are offered to individuals to pursue research or study in one or more Scandinavian countries for up to one year.  AWARDS ARE MADE IN ALL FIELDS.

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.  Applicants must have a well-defined research or study project that makes a stay in Scandinavia essential.  Applicants must have completed their undergraduate education by the start of their project in Scandinavia.  Team projects are eligible, but each member must apply as an individual, submitting a separate, fully-documented application.  The ASF considers it desirable that all candidates have at least some ability in the language of the host country, even if it is not essential for the execution of the research plan.  GRANTS are considered especially suitable for post-graduate scholars, professionals, and candidates in the arts to carry out research or study visits of one to three months duration.  FELLOWSHIPS are intended to support a year-long stay with priority given to candidates at the graduate level for dissertation-related study or research.  ASF awards may require supplementation from another source, but they should not duplicate the benefits of additional awards (and vice versa).  Application forms and additional information are available at www.amscan.org

Hoping that you all are having an enjoyable and productive summer.

Best wishes –

Charmaine
