The purpose of the NNEMS program is to provide students with practical research opportunities and experiences in an EPA offices or labs; increase public awareness of and involvement in environmental issues; encourage qualified individuals to pursue environmental careers; and help defray the costs associated with the pursuit of academic programs related to the field of environmental education, such as pollution control, science, engineering, technology, social science, and specialty areas.  Research projects are offered (developed and sponsored) by USEPA headquarters and carried out in EPA’s ten regional offices and labs throughout the US.  Recipients of NNEMS fellowships receive a stipend based on the student’s level of education and the duration and location of the project.  Applications for prestigious fellowships such as these benefit from planning well in advance.  See details on this website to play for coming year. WREI awards annual fellowships to a select number of graduate students (or recent graduates) with a proven commitment to equity for women.  WREI Fellows gain practical policymaking experience and graduate credit as they work from January to August as Congressional legislative aides in Washington, DC.  Fellows receive stipends for tuition and living expenses.  Only students who are currently enrolled in master’s or doctoral program at an accredited institution in the USA OR WHO HAVE COMPLETED SUCH A PROGRAM WITHIN THE PAST 18 MONTHS ARE ELIGIBLE (at least 9 graduated credit hours of coursework is strongly suggested before applying).  WREI fellows come from a wide range of academic fields, e.g., medicine, law, nursing, art, science, history, women’s studies, and business administration.  Each fellow receives a monthly stipend of $1,300 with an additional sum of $500 for purchase of health insurance.  WREI will also reimburse Fellows up to a maximum of $1,500 over 2 semesters ($750 per semester) for cost of credit hours at their home institutions.  WREI receives between 45 to 100 applications each year for 6 fellowship positions.  See website for details.

Short-term grants-in-aid support visits to Hagley for scholarly research in the imprint, manuscript, pictorial, and artifact collections.  They are designed to assist researchers with travel and living expenses while using the research collections.  Scholars receive a stipend, make use of the research holdings, and participate in the programs of the Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society.  These grants are to support serious scholarly work, both degree candidates and senior scholars and writers working independently as well as college and university teachers, librarians, archivists, museum curators, and scholars from fields other than humanities.  Low cost housing may be available on the museum grounds.  Stipends are for a minimum of 2 weeks, maximum of 2 months, at no more than $1,400 per month.
