Join us for a multi-day backpacking and paddling expedition at Burr Oak State Park in Southeastern Ohio, where we will discuss how to properly plan, prepare, and facilitate an adventure trip for a group of participants. Topics include budgeting, equipment, group management, Leave No Trace, logistics, meal planning, risk management, and safety. Some of these skills you can only learn from experience, so if you haven't experienced them yet, learn it from someone who has! Cost includes all equipment, food, instruction, permits, and transportation. An 8-hour class in boating and water safety designed by ODNR Division of Watercraft. It covers the fundamentals of safe boating: state-required equipment, watercraft laws, navigation Rules of the Road, basic safety and risk management, and aids to navigation. The Quickstart Your Kayak workshop is a brief introduction to paddling a kayak. Students are presented with basic information on dressing to paddle safely and potential hazards and simple rescues. First Year Adventure Program (319000)

Join other first year students on a multi-day adventure on the Kent Campus the week prior to Welcome Weekend. Activities are based out of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center and local natural resources are utilized for this program. We will start with icebreakers and teambuilding, then progress to our low challenge course on Monday. We will experience our high challenge course and rock climbing on Tuesday. We will bike on the Portage Hike & Bike Trail and compete in a scavenger hunt on the Kent Campus on Wednesday. We will finish with a day-long canoe & kayak trip down the Cuyahoga River through our new Crooked River Adventures on Thursday. Fees include lodging, equipment, facilities, food, and instructors.
