American Red Cross Junior Lifeguarding is designed to guide youth to the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course by building a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills for future lifeguards. Junior Lifeguarding is an effective transition from upper-level Learn-to-Swim courses. This course does not certify participants in first aid, CPR, AED, or as a lifeguard. Junior Lifeguarding will introduce participants to: The skills needed for entry to the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course; Communication and decision making skills; The basic responsibilities, knowledge, and skills of a lifeguard.A pretest will be given the first day of class consisting of: Continuously swimming front crawl for 25 yards; 25 yard breaststroke swim; Treading water for 1 minute; Submerge and swim 10 feet under water; Float for 30 seconds on back. Participants failing to complete any part of the pretest will not be permitted to continue in the class but will receive a full refund.

The course prepares participants to respond to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Upon successful completion, participants will be certified in Lifeguarding, FA/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Administration and Preventing Disease Transmission.
