About the Race

Please join us for our third annual spring race on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The race, named after Kent State University's unofficial mascot, will be held at 8 a.m.

Check In: Due to insurance limitations, headphones, baby joggers, inline skates, animals, etc. are not permitted. Recreational Services reserves the right to refuse any entry.

Race check-in will take place on Friday, April 12 from 6 - 9 p.m. in Seminar Room A of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC). Runners may also check-in before the race from 7 - 7:30 a.m. in the lobby of the SRWC.

Cancellation policy: Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to another person, event or year. The Black Squirrel 5k Race will be held rain or shine.


Registration

Registration is $25 per person and is available online. Participants may also register in person at the SRWC. Early bird registration is open through Jan. 31 for $20 per person. A late registration fee of $30 per person will be assessed after April 8, 2013.

About the Course

The race begins and ends in front of the SRWC. The state-of-the art facility offers plenty of parking, indoor registration, restrooms and locker room facilities. The race is a loop course through the Kent State University campus and is tracked with a chip timing system.

  • Performance T-shirts (men's and women's styles) for the first 600 participants

  • Door prizes with gifts from local vendors

Awards

Overall winners (male and female) will receive cash prizes.
  • First: $75
  • Second: $50
  • Third: $25

Age Group Winners
Age group winners (male and female) will receive medals. First, second and third place awards will be given for the following categories:

  • 15 - 19
  • 20 - 24
  • 25 - 29
  • 30 - 34
  • 35 - 39
  • 40 - 44
  • 45 - 49
  • 50 - 54
  • 55 - 59
  • 60 - 64
  • 65 - 69
  • 70 - 74
  • 75 - 79
  • 80+
