About the Race:

Please join us for the 13th Annual Bowman Cup 5k Race on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. The race, named after former Kent State University President Dr. George Bowman, will begin at 8 a.m. Participants can also take part in other Homecoming activities throughout the day, culminating in the Golden Flashes battle against the Northern Illinois Huskies.

Registration and Check-In

Registration for the 13th Annual Bowman Cup 5k Race is now LIVE! Register online today.

Due to insurance limitations, headphones, baby joggers, inline skates, animals, etc. are not permitted. Recreational Services reserves the right to refuse any entry.

Race check-in will take place from Monday, Sept. 30 until 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 at Kent's premier running store, Second Sole. The store is located at 104 South Lincoln Street, Kent, OH 44240. It is open from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Friday.

Runners may also check-in before the race from 6:30 - 7:45 a.m. in the lobby of the SRWC. All participants who register after Thursday, Sept. 26 must wait until the morning of the race to check-in.

Cancellation policy: Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to another person, event or year. The Bowman Cup will be held rain or shine.

About the Course

The chip-timed race begins and ends in front of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC). The state-of-the-art facility offers free parking for the event, indoor registration, restrooms and locker rooms.

This USATF certified course through Kent's residential area follows the Portage Hike and Bike Trail, letting participants enjoy its scenic route through Kent State University's surrounding community. You can visit our website to download a course map or take a virtual tour to plan out your strategy!

  • Performance T-shirts (men's and women's styles) for the first 600 participants
  • Delicious free buffet for all in attendance
  • Free child care for children ages 18 months - 8 years* (must preregister - limited to first 52 children)
  • Door prizes with gifts from all your favorite local vendors
  • Reserved seating for the Homecoming parade

    *Free child care is available for children ages 18 months - 8 years old with at least one parent or legal guardian registered for the race. Child care will be provided by Kent State University's Child Development Center. Preregistration will be required per child. Additional information and online registration will be available late summer.

Overall winners (male and female) will receive cash prizes, a gift certificate to Second Sole, a fedora hat and a signature Bowman cup.
