Tire Modeling at Goodyear

The presentation gives an overview of Finite Element Modeling of Tire Performance at Goodyear. Over last decade the Tire Performance Modeling became an important part of New Product Development process at Goodyear, contributing significantly to the decreasing of the design cycle. Following aspects are covered:
- Challenges of Tire Design process and role of Tire Modeling;
- Technical Challenges of Tire Performance Modeling;
- FEA solvers used;
- Steady-state rolling model for Tire Performance;
- Multi-physics integration scheme
At the end several examples of Tire Performance Modeling that are important for Goodyear's New Product Development Process are shared.
Ihor Skrypnyk received his Ph.D. degree in mechanics of deformable solid and material sciences (1992) and his Doctor of Sciences degree in mechanics of deformable solid (2000) from National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
He spent 1995 and 2001 as visiting researcher at Technical University in Delft, the Netherlands, where his scientific interest turned to computational material sciences, and in particular to modeling of mechanical behavior of polymers.In 2002 he joined Goodyear Corporate Research in Akron as Senior Research Engineer.
In 2002 - 2008 he led joint research project of Goodyear and Sandia National Laboratories on constitutive modeling of rubber compounds.
In 2007 Dr. Skrypnyk was appointed Team Leader for the Mechanics of Materials group in Goodyear Corporate Research.
Currently Dr. Skrypnyk is Global Chief Engineer for Manufacturing and Constitutive Modeling.
He authored near 100 papers, technical reports and publications at the scientific and technical forums.
