Update for Inventors: New streamlined invention processing system (4/6/2012)
As you may know, one of the important provisions of the new patent law which just passed is that the U.S. is now going to a first-to-file, rather than the traditional first-to-invent, patent system. Therefore, KSU is going to respond with a streamlined invention processing system (within the context of current university policy) to enable patent filings to take place more expediently, as follows:
Inventions submitted to the Office of Corporate Engagement and Commercialization will be reviewed immediately, and provisional patent applications on selected inventions will be made quickly. Patent Board meetings will be held biannually in September and March, during which 1) inventions not previously filed will be presented by inventors and reviewed, and 2) inventions previously filed as provisional applications which are coming up for a utility patent application decision will be reviewed. Patent application filings will be made subsequently, as appropriate.
