Method of Synthesis of B-Thiolato Cobalamin Compounds

KSU.251

Abstract: The invention describes a novel method for synthesis for preparing GluSCbl.  This invention does not require an additional chromatographic step to provide a product of 98% purity and can be carried out in ambient conditions.

Applications: Severe B12-deficiency may lead to megoblastic anemia and/or neurological impairment. Insufficient vitamin B12 as a result of faulty absorption frequently manifests as pernicious anemia. B12-related conditions arising from malabsorption can easily (and reversibly) be treated by administering vitamin B12, or its hydroxycobalamin derivative, either orally or by injection into the muscle tissue.

Other therapeutic applications have been identified, such as:

  • Alzheimer's disease
  • AIDS
  • Arteriosclerosis/Vascular disease
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Aging
  • ALS
  • CFS
  • Autism
  • Macular degeneration
  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Diabetic neuropathy
