Continuing Study Course and Workshop Admissions

Professionals in the information industry are invited to take individual courses and workshops that will advance their skills in a particular area.


Kent State University offers two options for persons wanting to take individual courses for self-improvement, intellectual curiosity or professional development, without obtaining a degree:

  1. Guest students can take up to six (6) semester hours of graduate-level courses. In order to be a guest student, you must have earned a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution. 
  2. Non-degree students also must already have a bachelor's degree.

Note: Enrollment in some courses SLIS courses is restricted to current students only. Check the course description in the Graduate Catalog or email to find out if the course that interests you is restricted.


Non-students: Anyone who is not currently registered for courses at Kent State should contact the Office of Continuing and Distance Education at 330-672-3100 to register for SLIS workshops.

Current students: Log in to your FlashLine account. Under the "Student Tools and Courses" tab, click on "Add or Drop Classes," and then enter the five-digit CRN number from the workshop schedule.

M.L.I.S. students must fill out the Request for Workshop Credit form AND consult the Workshop-Course Overlap List before registering for a workshop. Up to four (4) workshop credits may be counted toward the degree.
